Multinational study demonstrates positive effects of laquinimod in patients with RRMS

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Active Biotech today announced results from a 36-week active extension study evaluating two doses of laquinimod, an investigational, once-daily oral immunomodulator, for the treatment of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis.

Enzo Biochem streamlines operations, expects gross margin improvements

Enzo Biochem, Inc., announced today that it has streamlined its operations, which is anticipated to result in a reduction in annualized operating expenses of more than $4 million beginning in the fiscal 2011 first quarter. These initiatives are also expected to result in increased gross margins. The Company believes that the operating cost reductions, which affect all of its operating businesses as well as corporate overhead, will result in Enzo generating positive cash flow from operations in 2011.

FDA accepts IND application for vaccine candidate based on iBioLaunch technology platform

iBio, Inc. announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application filed for a vaccine candidate made with the Company's proprietary transformative technology, the iBioLaunch technology platform. The candidate vaccine was manufactured by iBio's research collaborator, Fraunhofer Center for Molecular Biotechnology (FCMB), in its cGMP pilot manufacturing facility in Newark, Delaware.

Trius and Scripps to develop antibiotics from marine biomedical sources

In an effort to tap into the vast potential of the oceans as a source for novel medical treatments, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), a part of the Department of Defense (DoD), has awarded San Diego-based Trius Therapeutics, Inc. a four-and-a-half year contract worth up to $29.5 million to collaborate with Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego for the development of novel antibiotics directed against microorganisms that cause serious infections.

Talecris Biotherapeutics announces 2010 eALTA award recipients

USP PET results qualify Apricus Bio's NexACT as anti-microbial preservative

Apricus Biosciences, backed by a revenue generating CRO business and seeking to leverage its multi-route NexACT® drug delivery technology and internal pipeline through out-licensing partnerships, today announced that results from a United States Pharmacopeia Preservative Efficacy Test (USP PET) qualified NexACT as an anti-microbial preservative. The results show that NexACT was effective in killing more than 23 strains of bacteria, fungus and mold, well beyond the requirements for passing the USP PET.

MJFF selects Epitomics to distribute LRRK2 monoclonal antibodies

Epitomics, Inc. today announced that The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) has chosen the company to distribute a panel of LRRK2 monoclonal antibodies that were developed under an agreement between the two parties. Genzyme announces Japanese approval of Synvisc viscosupplement for OA knee pain relief

Genzyme Corporation announced today that Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has approved Synvisc® (hylan G-F 20; 3 x 2 mL), indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Reimbursement has been obtained and publicized by Japan's Central Social Insurance Medical Council.

NIAMS awards $684,000 SBIR grant to Signum Biosciences to develop GPCR modulating therapeutics
