A new study shows that genetic pre-screening could reduce the number of screening tests needed to identify individuals at risk for osteoporotic fractures. Douglas P. Kiel, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Musculoskeletal Research Center in the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, is an author on the report published this month in PLOS (Public Library of Science) Medicine.

Study: Luminescent substance enables accurate observation of different areas of the organism

A luminescent fluid made up of nanoparticles that allows more accurate observation of different areas of the organism has been developed by a research team from the Colloidal Materials group of the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (a CSIC-University of Seville joint centre) in collaboration with the Institute of Materials Science of Aragon, the Andalusian Centre of Medicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND) and the Spanish National Accelerator Centre (CNA).

Chest X-rays reveal more severe COVID-19 in racial/ethnic minority patients

Racial/ethnic minority patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 infection are more likely to have more severe disease on chest X-rays than white/non-Hispanic patients, increasing the likelihood of adverse outcomes, such as intubation or death, according to a study published in the journal Radiology.
