Consolidation treatment with Y-90 epratuzumab after R-CHOP improves remission in DLBCL lymphoma

Immunomedics, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on the development of monoclonal antibody-based products for the targeted treatment of cancer, autoimmune and other serious diseases, today reported that consolidation treatment with fractionated yttrium-90 (Y-90) labeled epratuzumab, after induction therapy with rituximab and CHOP (R-CHOP) chemotherapy, improved remission status of adult patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a form of aggressive lymphoma.

Micromet announces presentation of updated results from MT103 Phase 2 trial in MRD positive ALL patients

Micromet, Inc. today announced the presentation of updated results from a Phase 2 trial of the Company's lead product candidate blinatumomab (MT103) in adult patients with minimal residual disease (MRD) positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). An analysis of long-term efficacy data demonstrated that blinatumomab produced prolonged remissions in patients with ALL. As of November 2010, the hematologic disease free survival (DFS) was 60%, with a follow-up of up to 27.5 months.

Data from comparative REVLIMID study in multiple myeloma presented at 52nd ASH

Celgene International Sàrl today announced that data from a randomised clinical study conducted by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) were presented at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology comparing REVLIMID® (lenalidomide) plus low-dose dexamethasone (Rd) to lenalidomide plus high-dose dexamethasone (RD) in both younger and older newly-diagnosed multiple myeloma patients (NDMM).

Knee replacement operations cause bacterial infection in the joint

Last year 12 700 knee replacement operations were carried out in Sweden. Most such operations go well, but some patients are affected by bacterial infection in the joint and have to be re-operated. This is a complicated procedure that does not always produce successful results, as shown in a thesis by Anna Stefánsdóttir from Lund University in Sweden.

Reason behind recurrence of CLL in lymph nodes and bone marrow after chemotherapy

In research to be presented at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting, investigators at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston offer a new explanation of why chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) tends to recur in the lymph nodes and bone marrow after being cleared from the bloodstream by chemotherapy. Their findings will be reported during in an oral session on Monday, Dec. 6, at 4:45 p.m. in room 315 of the Orange County Convention Center.

No overall cancer risk in people who donate stem cells

American Society of Hematology reveals that there is no increase in overall cancer risk in people who donate stem cells and that the utilization of a double cord blood stem cell transplant is associated with better overall outcomes when used early in the treatment of acute leukemias.

Positive interim data from Phase I/II trial of CYT387 in myelofibrosis presented at ASH Annual Meeting

Amgen announces final study results of Nplate in adults with chronic ITP

Amgen Inc. today announced the final results from a 5-year open-label extension study investigating the long-term efficacy and safety of Nplate (romiplostim) in adult chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura. Chronic ITP is a serious autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet counts in the blood (thrombocytopenia), which can lead to serious bleeding events.
