Further acne treatment studies necessary: Experts

Researchers writing in the journal The Lancet suggest further research that is urgently needed for effective non-antibiotic treatments for acne, because of concerns regarding long-term antibiotic use and its contribution to bacterial resistance. Pharmacies are well stocked with a wide range of acne medications. However, evidence regarding their efficacy and which treatments work best for whom are limited, the authors added.

Eisai announces results of perampanel Phase III study on epilepsy

Results presented today of a Phase III pivotal study for the investigational compound perampanel for partial-onset seizures showed that perampanel, 8 mg and 12 mg, produced statistically significant reductions in median seizure frequency compared to placebo among patients having partial-onset seizures while receiving treatment with one to three other epilepsy drugs.

Boehringer Ingelheim today announced the initiation of two phase II studies, 1200.89 and LUX-Breast 2, evaluating afatinib in patients with metastatic breast cancer, who have an overexpression of the erbB2 (HER2) protein, so called HER2-positive patients.
