Study: 80% of U.S. physicians use Herceptin for HER2-positive metastatic gastric cancer treatment

In just over a month following the FDA's October 2010 approval of Roche's Herceptin for HER2-positive metastatic gastric cancer, more than 80 percent of U.S. physicians report using the drug, according to new research by GfK HealthCare.

Amgen announces primary results from XGEVA Phase 3 trial in castrate-resistant prostate cancer

Amgen today announced primary results of a pivotal Phase 3 trial demonstrating that XGEVA significantly increased bone metastasis-free survival for more than four months in men with castrate-resistant metastatic prostate cancer that has not yet spread to bone.

Astellas Pharma US, Inc., U.S. subsidiary of Astellas Pharma Inc., today announced the results of a pivotal phase III clinical trial for mirabegron, the first of a new class of compounds under development for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB), which show mirabegron significantly improves key OAB symptoms – urinary incontinence and frequency of micturition compared with placebo.

Coffee reduces prostate cancer risk

In the 20-year study of almost 50,000 men, researchers noted that those who drank at least six cups a day were 20 per cent less likely to get prostate cancer than those who never took coffee. Strikingly, they were 60 per cent less likely than the non-coffee drinkers to die of the disease. The researchers also say that decaffeinated coffee is just as effective.
