Pro-Pharmaceuticals awarded $489,000 in federal grants under Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project

Pro-Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a developer of therapeutics that target Galectin receptors to treat cancer and fibrosis, today announced it has been notified that it has been awarded approximately $489,000 total in two federal grants under the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project ("QTDP") Program.

Optimer third quarter net loss increases to $11.8 million

Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2010. Optimer reported a net loss for the third quarter of 2010 of $11.8 million, or $0.30 per share, which was in line with the Company's expectations. This compares to a net loss for the third quarter of 2009 of $9.4 million, or $0.28 per share. The increase in net loss was primarily due to an increase in research and development and marketing expenses.

AtriCure third quarter revenue increases $1.2 million to $14.5 million

AtriCure, Inc., a medical device company and a leader in cardiac surgical ablation systems and systems for the exclusion of the left atrial appendage, today announced revenue of $14.5 million for its seasonally impacted third quarter of 2010. Revenue from product sales in the United States was $11.6 million, reflecting growth of 8.1 percent and international revenue was $2.9 million, reflecting 19.2 percent growth on a constant currency basis or 12.7 percent on a GAAP basis.

Celldex third quarter net loss increases to $9.1 million

Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2010. Celldex reported a net loss of $9.1 million, or $0.28 per share, for the third quarter of 2010 compared to a net loss of $7.2 million, or $0.45 per share, for the third quarter of 2009. For the nine months ended September 30, 2010, Celldex reported a net loss of $25.2 million, or $0.79 per share, compared to a net loss of $23.6 million, or $1.49 per share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2009.

InVivo opens new development laboratory and manufacturing facility

InVivo Therapeutics Corporation, a company focused on the development of groundbreaking technologies for the treatment of spinal cord injuries (SCI), today announced that it has signed a lease to open its first manufacturing and development facility in Medford, Massachusetts. The company expects to use this new facility to scale up the manufacturing process for its lead product candidate, a novel biocompatible polymer scaffolding device used to treat acute open-wound SCI.

Soligenix completes enrollment in RiVax Phase 1B ricin toxin clinical trial

Soligenix, Inc., a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, reported today that it has completed enrollment of its Phase 1B clinical trial of RiVax™, a ricin subunit vaccine, in healthy volunteers. Preliminary results indicate that RiVax™ appears safe at all doses tested in volunteers. This trial is designed to assess the duration of immune responses using an adjuvant formulation of RiVax™ over a period of more than one year after vaccination.

Autism Consortium begins new therapeutic initiative on Translational Medicine

The Autism Consortium, an innovative Boston area collaboration of researchers, clinicians, funders and families dedicated to catalyzing research and enhancing clinical care for autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), announced that it will begin a new initiative on Translational Medicine and Autism Therapeutics. New findings pave way to improve early detection of ovarian cancer
