Onyx reports encouraging ORR from ongoing Carfilzomib Phase 2 study for multiple myeloma

Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced interim results from an ongoing Phase 2 study, known as the 004 study. Carfilzomib, a selective, next-generation proteasome inhibitor, demonstrated encouraging overall response rates (ORR), tolerability and durable disease control when administered as a single-agent in patients with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma.

NewLink Genetics reports positive data from Phase 2 trial of HyperAcute-Pancreas cancer immunotherapy

NewLink Genetics Corporation today announced positive Phase 2 clinical trial data of its HyperAcute®-Pancreas cancer immunotherapy combined with standard adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with surgically resectable pancreatic cancer. The study results suggest a potentially longer disease-free survival and one-year overall survival in this patient group than reported in previous studies of surgery and adjuvant therapy alone. These data were presented in a poster session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting.

Incyte presents additional results from INCB7839 Phase I/II trial for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer

Incyte Corporation announced today additional positive results from an ongoing Phase I/II clinical trial for its selective oral sheddase inhibitor, INCB7839, involving 66 patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer during a poster session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting in Chicago, IL, June 4 to June 8, 2010.

Selenium not beneficial in reducing risk of lung cancer development

Selenium, a supplement taken daily by millions in hopes of protection against cancer and a host of other diseases, has proven to be of no benefit in reducing a patient's risk of developing lung cancer - either a recurrence or second primary malignancy, according to results of an international Phase III clinical trial.

AVEO's initiation of SCH 900105 Phase 2 trial in non-small cell lung cancer triggers $8.5M milestone payment

AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, today announced that it has initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating SCH 900105 (also referred to as AV-299) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. The initiation of this trial triggers an $8.5 million milestone payment by Merck to AVEO resulting from a 2007 agreement between AVEO and Schering-Plough (now Merck).

ArQule, Daiichi Sankyo present positive data from Phase 2 combination ARQ 197 trial for lung cancer at ASCO

ArQule, Inc. and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. today announced the presentation of data from a Phase 2 clinical trial at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) showing encouraging overall survival (OS) results with ARQ 197 in combination with erlotinib among patients with advanced, refractory non-small cell lung cancer.

ZymoGenetics' IL-21 Phase 2 clinical trial in metastatic melanoma meets primary endpoint

ZymoGenetics, Inc. today announced positive results from a Phase 2 clinical trial in metastatic melanoma with recombinant Interleukin 21 (IL-21) as a single agent. The trial met the primary endpoint of efficacy, as measured by objective response rate or lack of early disease progression. Overall response rate was 23.1%, in evaluable patients, and median progression-free survival was 4.3 months. The results were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting.

Positive phase III clinical trial data of NovoCure's NovoTTF device for recurrent GBM presented at ASCO

Data from the first phase III clinical trial of NovoCure's NovoTTF device for treatment of patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GBM) were presented today as a late breaking abstract during the Neuro-Oncology session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago. Study results show that NovoTTF, a novel, non-invasive, portable medical device, may be as or more effective than the best available chemotherapies for GBM, but without the toxicity usually associated with cytotoxic or targeted treatments.

Alder Biopharmaceuticals reports positive data from ALD518 Phase 2a clinical trial for NSCLC

Alder Biopharmaceuticals Inc. today announced that patients with late-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) showed improvement in cancer-related anemia and symptoms of the disease in a Phase 2a clinical trial of ALD518, a monoclonal antibody directed against interleukin-6 (IL-6).

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has stopped a clinical trial evaluating a new approach to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke in children with sickle cell anemia and iron overload because of evidence that the new treatment was unlikely to prove better than the existing treatment.

PEB's European licensee SDX completes clinical trial for prognostic gene signature for colorectal cancer

Pacific Edge (PEB), a New Zealand-based biomedical company, today announced the successful completion of the European clinical trial for their prognostic gene signature for colorectal cancer. The clinical trial results showed a successful outcome that enables patients diagnosed with UICC stage II or UICC stage III colorectal cancer and with a high risk of disease progression to be identified and treated more appropriately.

RTU announces phase 2 clinical trial results of UF-021 in patients with retinitis pigmentosa

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today confirmed that its partner, R-Tech Ueno, Ltd. reported the results of its recently completed phase 2 clinical trial of UF-021 in retinitis pigmentosa patients. The results showed improvement in visual function dose-dependently in both visual field test and subjective findings.

Infinity announces Phase 2 clinical trial results of IPI-504 for NSCLC

Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today reported the results from its Phase 2 clinical trial of IPI-504, the company's i.v.-administered Hsp90 chaperone inhibitor, in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Data reported show that IPI-504 demonstrated clinical activity in patients with NSCLC, in particular among patients with oncogenic anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene rearrangements.
