Elsevier, SIOG launch Journal of Geriatric Oncology

Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) announced today the launch of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology. The journal is focused on advancing research in the pathogenesis, biology, treatment, and survivorship issues of older adults with cancer. It covers all aspects of geriatric oncology, from basic scientific research through to clinical research, as well as research that is relevant to education and policy development.

EUSA grants Ohara Japanese rights to Erwinase oncology therapy

EUSA Pharma, a transatlantic specialty pharmaceutical company focused on oncology, pain control and critical care, today announced that it has granted the Japanese development and commercialization rights to its oncology therapy Erwinase(R) to Ohara Pharmaceutical Company Limited. The agreement represents the first product partnership EUSA has established in Japan.

APP receives FDA marketing clearance for preservative-free Heparin Lock Flush Solution

APP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals Holding, Inc., announced today that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market preservative-free Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP in two dosage strengths, 10 USP Units/1 mL and 100 USP Units/1 mL, and will soon launch these single dose vial presentations.

Study: ONGLYZA and metformin improve HbA1c levels for adult patients with type 2 diabetes at 76-weeks

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and AstraZeneca today announced results up to 76-weeks from a Phase 3 study of ONGLYZA(TM) (saxagliptin) as initial combination therapy with metformin, which produced long-term glycemic improvement (as measured by glycosylated hemoglobin level (HbA1c)) in treatment-naive adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on diet and exercise compared to treatment with an investigational 10 mg dose of saxagliptin or metformin alone.

Genentech's second Phase III ICON7 study of Avastin in ovarian cancer meets primary endpoint

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, announced today that a second large, Phase III, international study showed that the combination of Avastin® (bevacizumab) and chemotherapy, followed by the continued use of Avastin alone, increased the time women with previously untreated ovarian cancer lived without the disease worsening (progression-free survival or PFS, the primary endpoint), compared to chemotherapy alone.
