Tendyne Feasibility Study: Tendyne successfully implants TMVI system in first patient

Tendyne Holdings, Inc., a privately held clinical stage medical device company, announced today that in November 2014 the Tendyne Transcatheter Mitral Valve Implantation system (TMVI) was successfully implanted in the first patient of the Tendyne Feasibility Study. This was the first patient enrolled in a three continent, multicenter trial, which aims to generate insight into the safety and performance of the Tendyne device in inoperable patients suffering from mitral regurgitation.

Apheresis, the simple process of drawing blood, becomes a powerful therapeutic in extracorporeal photopherisis (ECP) according to clinicians and scientists who met at the NIH State of the Science Symposium in Therapeutic Apheresis. Nora Ratcliffe, MD, of Dartmouth Hitchcock, looked at current methodology and opportunities for research in a paper recently published in Transfusion Medicine Review, titled "National Institutes of Health State of the Science Symposium in Therapeutic Apheresis: Scientific Opportunities in Extracorporeal Photopheresis."

Study: Coordinated emergency response could help improve patient survival from heart attack

A faster, coordinated emergency response in collaboration with hospital cardiac catheterization laboratories in each U.S. region, including New York City, is associated with improving patient survival from a heart attack caused by a sudden, completely blocked artery called an ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI), according to a study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2014.
