Vétoquinol acquires Bioniche's Animal Health business

Vétoquinol (NYSE Euronext Paris: VETO) and Bioniche Life Sciences Inc. (TSX: BNC), today jointly announced their signing of a share purchase agreement under which Vétoquinol has agreed to purchase Bioniche's Animal Health business for the cash purchase price of CAD$61 million.

Triphase's marizomib receives FDA orphan drug designation for treatment of multiple myeloma

Triphase Accelerator Corporation today announced that marizomib, its novel, potent proteasome inhibitor, has been granted orphan drug designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Office of Orphan Products Development for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The orphan drug designation will provide Triphase with 7-year marketing exclusivity for marizomib and other benefits upon FDA approval.

Link found between pollutants and certain metabolic complications of obesity

A team of researchers at the IRCM in Montr-al led by R-mi Rabasa-Lhoret, in collaboration with J-r-me Ruzzin from the University of Bergen in Norway, found a link between a type of pollutants and certain metabolic complications of obesity. Their breakthrough, published online this week by the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, could eventually help improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiometabolic risk associated with obesity, such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

Chemo and radiation can kill more cancer cells and spare healthy ones, suggests Rutgers research

What if there were a way to make chemotherapy and radiation more effective as cancer treatments than they are today, while also getting rid of debilitating side effects that patients dread? New prostate cancer screening method combines existing tests to increase accuracy

Northwestern Medicine- is the first health care provider in the country to offer a new non-invasive blood test for prostate cancer that is nearly three times more accurate than the current standard prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. Known as the Prostate Health Index (phi), the new test's accuracy will effectively remove the need for many men who test positive for elevated PSA levels to undergo a biopsy to achieve a reliable diagnosis.

Researchers develop ultra-precision hyperspectral camera for detection of skin cancers

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a lightweight, handheld, ultra-precision hyperspectral camera for the detection of skin cancers and their precursors. From the surface of the skin, the camera recognises early stages of cancer that are invisible to the naked eye. Collaborators in the pilot study are the University of Jyväskylä, the Päijät-Häme Central Hospital and the Skin and Allergy Hospital of Helsinki University Central Hospital.
