Colorectal cancer screening rates remain too low, with about one in three adults (ages 50 to 75 years) not being tested for colorectal cancer, according to a new Vital Signs report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

New drug combination therapy effectively kills cancer cells

Results from a recent preclinical study have shown that a new drug combination therapy being developed at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center effectively killed colon, liver, lung, kidney, breast and brain cancer cells while having little effect on noncancerous cells. The results lay the foundation for researchers to plan a future phase 1 clinical trial to test the safety of the therapy in a small group of patients.

Total revenues were $37.5 million and included recognition of a $5.0 million milestone payment from Mallinckrodt related to the NDA filing of MNK-795. Excluding this milestone and a $10 million upfront payment from Janssen in the third quarter of 2012, total revenues of $32.5 million grew 39% compared to $23.3 million for the third quarter of 2012.
