University of Leicester's GENIE to host Lifestyle and Cancer Awareness Workshop on Feb. 23

Women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer are invited to meet with experts who will advise on preventing or delaying the disease. The University of Leicester's Genetics Education Networking for Innovation and Excellence (GENIE) will hold its third Lifestyle and Cancer Awareness Workshop on Saturday, February 23.

Study evaluates link between sedentary time and death among breast cancer survivors

Spending a lot of time watching television after breast cancer diagnosis is not linked to death in these breast cancer survivors. It appears that after accounting for self-reported physical activity levels after diagnosis, sedentary behavior was not an independent risk factor for death.

Adults should consume less than 5 g of salt and at least 3,510 mg of potassium per day: WHO

Adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium, or 5 grams of salt, and at least 3,510 mg of potassium per day, according to new guidelines issued by the WHO. A person with either elevated sodium levels and low potassium levels could be at risk of raised blood pressure which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Interferon retreatment of chronic hepatitis C may be harmful

People with hepatitis C and chronic liver disease who relapsed or failed to respond to initial treatment are unlikely to improve on interferon retreatment. In fact, they may face an increased risk of dying sooner, and are likely to experience a variety of adverse effects, according to an updated systematic review published in The Cochrane Library.
