GTx, Inc. today reported financial results for the second quarter of 2011. The net loss for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 was $10.7 million compared with a net loss of $12.9 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2010.

Engineered T cells can eradicate deadly human ovarian cancer in immune-deficient mice

In a recent issue of Cancer Research, Daniel J. Powell, Jr., PhD, a research assistant professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, showed for the first time that engineered human T cells can eradicate deadly human ovarian cancer in immune-deficient mice.

Male breast cancer patients denied Medicaid coverage

The American Cancer society's pages on breast cancer in men lay out the facts. About 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, which makes it rare: about 100 times more women get the disease. It is known that men, like women, are more likely to develop cancer if they have certain mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Family history and age contribute to a man's likelihood of developing the disease as well.
