Researchers report Avastin is effective as Lucentis for AMD treatment

Researchers are reporting results from the first year of a two-year clinical trial that Avastin, a drug approved to treat some cancers and that is commonly used off-label to treat age-related macular degeneration, is as effective as the Food and Drug Administration-approved drug Lucentis for the treatment of AMD.

MorphoSys reaches second clinical milestone with OncoMed Pharmaceuticals

MorphoSys AG announced today that it has received a milestone payment from OncoMed Pharmaceuticals in connection with the FDA acceptance of an IND for a HuCAL-derived, fully human antibody. The antibody OMP-18R5, which targets the Wnt signaling pathway, will be evaluated in a Phase 1 trial in the US in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Researchers confirm fish livers as good source of fatty acids

The fishing industry usually discards fish livers, but a team of researchers from the University of Almeria has confirmed that they are a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are beneficial to health. Anchovies are one of the fish whose livers contain the highest levels of these substances.

New PET imaging clinical trial to improve early esophageal, lung cancer detection

Can a simple imaging test help predict the success of cancer treatment, even before the treatment is complete? To begin to answer this question, a new National Cancer Institute-funded clinical trial is using a novel PET imaging technique that could improve the early detection of tumor growth during treatment for esophageal and lung cancer.
