BD and Rady Children's announce innovative environmentally-friendly solution to dispose sharps wastes

BD, a leading global medical technology company, and Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego today announced that they have implemented an innovative pilot program at the Hospital that is designed to safely divert a significant percentage of BD sharps waste from landfills and utilize the recycled materials.

New study finds disparities in chlamydia screening

A new study from the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Regenstrief Institute has found that Black and especially Hispanic young women are screened for chlamydia at a significantly higher rate than young white women. This discrepancy in screening rates may contribute to nationwide reporting of higher rates of this sexually transmitted disease among minority young women.

Breast and lung cancer: Shared risk and treatment

New research has shown that women who are heavy smokers before menopause, especially prior to giving birth, may significantly increase their risk of developing breast cancer. In the US study looking at almost 150,000 women from the Nurses’ Health Study; it was found that breast cancer rates increased with higher levels of smoking among younger age groups. The study appeared in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine.
