University Hospitals receives $42 million for cancer care

Jane and Lee Seidman have donated $42 million to University Hospitals (UH) the largest gift in the Cleveland-based health system's history. In recognition of this unprecedented generosity, UH is naming the "Jane and Lee Seidman Cancer Center" in their honor.

ImmunoGen, Inc., a biotechnology company that develops antibody-based anticancer products using its Targeted Antibody Payload (TAP) technology, today announced the initiation of a randomized Phase I/II clinical trial to evaluate its proprietary product candidate, IMGN901 (lorvotuzumab mertansine), for first-line treatment of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) in patients with extensive disease.

Genetic screening for Lynch syndrome as cost-effective as other cancer screening procedures

Majority of Americans and Canadians are getting enough vitamin D and calcium, says report

The majority of Americans and Canadians are getting enough vitamin D and calcium to meet their needs, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine. Most people up to age 70 need no more than 600 international units, or IUs, of vitamin D per day, and those 71 and older may need as much as 800 IUs, the report finds. The amount of calcium needed ranges, based on age, from 700 to 1,300 milligrams per day.
