NIH grants Akonni $3M for development of multi-drug resistant/extensively drug-resistant genotyping test

NCI awards A&G $1.2M Phase II SBIR grant for development of breast cancer drug candidate

A&G Pharmaceutical announced today that it has received $1.2 million in Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for the program, "Novel Targeted Therapy for Breast Cancer," focused on the development of a neutralizing therapeutic antibody against a novel cancer-associated protein, GP88.

c-Met could be a potential personalized target for metastatic HCC

Researchers find genetic variants that cause arthritis in breast cancer patients taking aromatase inhibitors

Mayo Clinic researchers and their international colleagues have discovered genetic variants that lead to severe arthritis for a subset of women when taking aromatase inhibitors to treat their breast cancer. This serious side effect is so painful that many women halt their lifesaving medication. The findings appear today in the online issue of Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian recently announced encouraging clinical study results for patient-specific vaccine therapy to treat metastatic melanoma. The study is ongoing, but the report concludes that patient-specific vaccines can sometimes induce durable complete regression of progressing soft-tissue melanoma metastases, as demonstrated in one particular patient who participated in the trial.

Japanese Patent Office issues patent for ZIOPHARM Oncology's darinaparsin

ZIOPHARM Oncology, Inc. today announced that the Japanese Patent Office has issued a patent, Patent No. 4,571,408, with claims covering pharmaceutical compositions, including oral formulations, of various organic arsenic compounds, including darinaparsin (Zinapar or ZIO-101), and the use of these compositions and the organic arsenic compounds for the treatment of cancer, including as part of a combination therapy.

Pfizer ceases SUN 1120 Phase 3 trial of SUTENT in men with CRPC

Pfizer Inc. announced today the discontinuation of the SUN 1120 Phase 3 trial evaluating SUTENT (sunitinib malate) in combination with prednisone for men with advanced castration-resistant prostate cancer that had progressed despite treatment with a docetaxel-based chemotherapy regimen. During a scheduled interim analysis, an independent Data Monitoring Committee found that the combination of sunitinib with prednisone was unlikely to improve overall survival when compared to prednisone alone.
