Inovio Biomedical changes corporate name to Inovio Pharmaceuticals

Inovio Biomedical Corporation, a leader in the development of new preventive and therapeutic vaccines against cancers and infectious diseases, announced today that it has changed its corporate name to Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. by filing a Certificate of Amendment to its Certificate of Incorporation with the Secretary of State of the State of Delaware on May 14, 2010. Inovio's trading symbol remains the same.

Aeterna Zentaris' AEZS-108 receives orphan medicinal product designation for ovarian cancer in Europe

Aeterna Zentaris Inc. a late-stage drug development company specialized in oncology and endocrinology, today announced that it has received a positive opinion for orphan medicinal product designation from the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) of the European Medicines Agency, for its compound AEZS-108 for the treatment of ovarian cancer. AEZS-108, the Company's doxorubicin targeted conjugate compound, is currently in a Phase 2 trial in advanced ovarian and advanced endometrial cancer in Europe.

Celldex Therapeutics commences screening in CDX-1307 Phase 2 study for bladder cancer

Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that the first patient has been screened in a randomized Phase 2 study of the Company's novel, first-in-class antibody-based vaccine candidate from its Precision Targeted Immunotherapy (PTI) platform. This study will evaluate the CDX-1307 regimen in both neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings in patients with newly diagnosed muscle-invasive bladder cancers that express hCG-beta.

Most recurrences of HCC occur early after initial diagnosis and treatment: Research article

Hepatocellular carcinoma is an aggressive tumor with poor long-term prognosis. The reported 5-year recurrence rate ranges from 75% to 100%. Therefore, extrahepatic metastasis of HCC is uncommon due to the highly malignant nature of the primary tumor. However, with advances in different treatment modalities for HCC, the incidence of extrahepatic metastasis appears to be increasing.

Sports physicals, often called pre-participation sports examinations, are key to making sure athletes are healthy enough to play and avoiding tragic occurrences, like sudden cardiac death, says a Saint Louis University sports medicine expert.

The International Journal of Epidemiology today published a combined data analysis from a multi national population-based case-control study of glioma and meningioma, the most common types of brain tumour. This is the first in a series of combined data analyses of head and neck tumours published as part of the internationally coordinated INTERPHONE project.
