Eisai seeks simultaneous approval of eribulin mesylate in U.S., EU and Japan

Eisai Inc. today announced that it has submitted simultaneous regulatory applications for approval of eribulin mesylate (also known as E7389) for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer to agencies in Japan, the United States and the European Union (EU). Eribulin, a non-taxane microtubule dynamics inhibitor, is an investigational chemical compound discovered and developed by Eisai.

USPTO issues Notice of Allowance for menadione to prevent skin rash in patients taking EGFR inhibitors

Hana Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company focused on strengthening the foundation of cancer care, today announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the use of menadione to prevent and treat skin rash in patients taking biologic and small molecule epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors, such as Erbitux® and Tarceva®, for anti-cancer therapy.

Devicor offers to acquire EES Breast Care business

Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. (EES), a Johnson & Johnson company, today announced it has received an irrevocable, unconditional offer from Devicor Medical Products (Devicor), a portfolio company of GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC, (GTCR), to acquire its Breast Care business. The EES Breast Care business sells products designed to help doctors diagnose breast cancer at early stages, while minimizing patient discomfort. Financial terms of the offer are not being disclosed.

Patients switching to Victoza experience further reductions in A1c and weight loss

Diabetes Care published online the results of the Novo Nordisk LEAD™ 6 extension study, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of switching from exenatide, which is taken twice a day, to once-daily Victoza®. Results show that when added to oral antidiabetes drugs, patients who switched from exenatide to Victoza experienced further reductions in A1c and weight loss.

QRxPharma announced today initiation of the Company's first Phase 1 trial to evaluate the pharmacokinetic (PK) profiles of experimental controlled-release (CR) morphine and oxycodone formulations that will be incorporated into MoxDuo®CR. Neuroscientists prevent memory loss in fruit flies by blocking activity of PI3 kinase signaling protein

By blocking the cellular signaling activity of a protein, a team of neuroscientists at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has prevented memory loss in fruit flies caused by brain plaques similar to those thought to cause Alzheimer's disease in humans. The study also resolves a long-standing controversy about the role of this protein, PI3 kinase, which was previously thought to have a protective function against the disease.
