Breast Fest Film Festival to focus on storytelling as part of the healing process

Leading hospitals require premium diagnostic imaging equipment to image patients faster, with the best possible diagnostic accuracy. PinnacleHealth, a leading health care system in Harrisburg, Pa., has installed Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.’s Aquilion® Premium multi-detector CT at its Community Campus to enable them to meet these needs while improving patient care. The Aquilion Premium features 160 detector rows to image up to eight cm of anatomy in a single gantry rotation (as fast as 0.35 seconds).

Democratic National Committee commends the passage of Affordable Health Care for America Act

Tonight the House of Representatives passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act, landmark health reform legislation that will ensure every American has access to quality, affordable, stable and secure health care coverage. The legislation, which cracks down on some of the insurance industry's worst practices, would extend coverage to 36 million Americans and cut the deficit by $104 billion over ten years.

Using imaging mass spectrometry, researchers at the University of California, San Diego have developed tools that will enable scientists to visualize how different cell populations of cells communicate. Their study shows how bacteria talk to one another - an understanding that may lead to new therapeutic discoveries for diseases ranging from cancer to diabetes and allergies.

A divided House approves sweeping health reform legislation, 220-215

After months of intense debate and negotiations, the House of Representatives approved the most ambitious effort ever to change the country's health care system, with 219 Democrats and one Republican voting for the bill and 39 Democrats voting against the bill. Democrats in the chamber cheered the final tally.

Patients with highest breast density have greater risk of cancer recurrence, find researchers

A new study finds that women treated for breast cancer are at higher risk of cancer recurrence if they have dense breasts. Published in the December 15, 2009 issue of Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study's results indicate that breast cancer patients with dense breasts may benefit from additional therapies following surgery, such as radiation.
