Bioequivalence and comparable toxicity of ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals' ANX-514 and Taxotere affirmed

ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that a new, recently completed preclinical study has affirmed the bioequivalence and comparable toxicity of ANX-514 and Taxotere® (docetaxel). Shin Poong Pharmaceuticals, ADVENTRX's partner for ANX-514 in South Korea, independently conducted the study and data analysis.

Varian Medical Systems' RapidArc radiotherapy enables faster stereotactic treatment of lung tumors

Researchers from VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam have reported that RapidArc® radiotherapy from Varian Medical Systems has clinical advantages over earlier fixed-beam approaches to stereotactic treatments of lung tumors. Their findings, based on treatment of 85 medically inoperable lung cancer patients, were reported at the recent annual meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in Chicago and a condensed version has been published in the 'Green Journal' (Radiotherapy and Oncology) 93 (2009).

Portuguese scientists identified a molecular mechanism that can lead to metastases (spread of the cancer from the original site to other remote parts of the body) in breast cancers. Abnormally high levels of P-cadherin - an adhesion molecule that enables cells to bind together - occur in about a third of all breast cancers and are associated with poor prognosis.
