Appearing in Lancet Oncology, long term results of EORTC trial 22921 with 10.4 years median follow-up show that 5-FU (fluorouracil) based adjuvant chemotherapy after preoperative (chemo)-radiotherapy for patients with cT3-resectable T4 M0 rectal cancer does not improve survival or disease-free survival.

CytRx receives FDA approval to continue dosing aldoxorubicin for patients with soft tissue sarcomas

CytRx Corporation (NASDAQ:CYTR), a biopharmaceutical research and development company specializing in oncology, today announced it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to continue dosing patients with aldoxorubicin until disease progression in a planned pivotal, global Phase 3 clinical trial with aldoxorubicin as a second-line treatment for soft tissue sarcomas.

First patient dosed in ADXS-HPV Phase 1/2 study for HPV-associated head and neck cancer

Advaxis, Inc., a leader in developing the next generation of cancer immunotherapies, announced that the first patient has been dosed in a Phase 1/2 "window of opportunity" study being conducted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Patients diagnosed with HPV-associated head and neck cancer will receive ADXS-HPV immunotherapy during the "window" of time between initial diagnosis and minimally invasive transoral robotic surgery to remove their tumors.

Japanese MHLW approves ADCETRIS for relapsed or refractory CD30-positive HL and ALCL

Seattle Genetics, Inc. today announced that its collaborator, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, has received approval of ADCETRIS (brentuximab vedotin) from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare for the treatment of patients with CD30-positive relapsed or refractory Hodgkin lymphoma and anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

Johns Hopkins scientists say a previously known but little studied chemical compound targets and shuts down a common cancer process. In studies of laboratory-grown human tumor cell lines, the drug disrupted tumor cell division and prevented growth of advanced cancer cells.

GlaxoSmithKline plc announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Mekinist® (trametinib) for use in combination with Tafinlar® (dabrafenib) for the treatment of patients with unresectable melanoma (melanoma that cannot be removed by surgery) or metastatic melanoma (melanoma which has spread to other parts of the body) with BRAF V600E or V600K mutations.
