IRIDEX commences commercial shipment of IQ 532 laser systems

IRIDEX Corporation, today announced the commencement of commercial shipment of the IQ 532 laser systems. The IQ 532 is a high-power, 532 nm, dual port multi-purpose laser system for use by ophthalmologists to treat sight-threatening eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma; and for use by otolaryngologists to correct certain types of conductive hearing loss.

Study confirms MammaPrint's capabilities in determining patients likely to benefit from chemotherapy

Today, at the 11th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Agendia, a world leader in molecular cancer diagnostics, announced that Breast Cancer Research and Treatment has published an important study demonstrating the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with a high-risk of breast cancer recurrence according to the MammaPrint test. Provectus reports on end-of-Phase 2 meeting with FDA on licensure of PV-10 for metastatic melanoma

Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development-stage oncology and dermatology biopharmaceutical company, announced today that it has held an end-of-Phase 2 meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to seek consensus on clinical program scope and endpoints for licensure of PV-10 for metastatic melanoma. Nycomed, Merck enter co-promotion agreement for Daxas in Canada and Europe

Nycomed and Merck & Co., Inc. (based in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and known as MSD outside the USA and Canada) today announced that they have entered into a co-promotion agreement for Canada and certain European countries for the commercialization of Daxas® (roflumilast), an investigational once-daily tablet for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In addition, the two companies have signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the commercialization of Daxas® in the United Kingdom.

Results of study comparing REMICADE to azathioprine for Crohn's disease published

Findings published today in The New England Journal of Medicine from a first-of-its-kind comparator trial evaluating the anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha biologic treatment REMICADE (infliximab) in the treatment of moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in patients who were naive to immunomodulator and biologic therapy, showed that a significantly greater proportion of patients receiving REMICADE achieved steroid-free remission and mucosal healing compared with patients receiving azathioprine.

A team of investigators from Columbia, Rockefeller and Stanford Universities has identified a new gene involved in hair growth, as reported in a paper in the April 15 issue of Nature. This discovery may affect future research and treatments for male pattern baldness and other forms of hair loss.
