FibroGen, Astellas initiate Phase 2 study of ASP1517/FG-4592 for treatment of anemia linked with CKD

Astellas Pharma Inc. (Tokyo:4503) (Astellas) and FibroGen, Inc. (FibroGen) announced today the initiation of a Phase 2 clinical study in Japan of ASP1517/FG-4592 for treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients on dialysis.

WHO aims to increase global rate of breastfeeding for six months to 50% by 2025

Only 37 countries, or 19% of those reporting, have passed laws reflecting all the recommendations of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, according to a new World Health Organization (WHO) report published during World Breastfeeding Week. The week is celebrated in more than 170 countries from 1 to 7 August.

NIH expands CRIC study to identify risk factors for progression of early stage CKD

Researchers from the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort study are embarking on another five years of work to identify risk factors for progression of early stage chronic kidney disease, better understand the importance of reduced kidney function in older persons, and learn what role CKD may play in other illnesses that require hospitalization. CRIC is supported by the National Institutes of Health.

Colgate-Palmolive Company today reported worldwide Net sales of $4,346 million in second quarter 2013, an increase of 2.0% versus second quarter 2012. Global unit volume grew 4.0%, pricing increased 1.0% and foreign exchange was negative 3.0%. Organic sales (Net sales excluding foreign exchange, acquisitions and divestments) grew 5.5%.
