TherapeuticsMD starts TX 12-002-HR phase 3 clinical trial for secondary amenorrhea

TherapeuticsMD, Inc., a women's healthcare company, announced today that it has initiated the SPRY Trial, a randomized, placebo-controlled phase 3 clinical trial designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TX 12-002-HR, its oral progesterone candidate for secondary amenorrhea, a condition treated to maintain fertility in young premenopausal women.

Bristol-Myers Squibb fourth quarter 2013 revenues increase 6% to $4.4 billion

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company today reported results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2013. The fourth quarter was highlighted by the company's announcement to sell its diabetes business as part of the continued evolution of its successful BioPharma strategy to a specialty care model. The company achieved important regulatory milestones in the quarter for Eliquis in the U.S., daclatasvir/asunaprevir in Japan, daclatasvir in Europe and Farxiga in the U.S. In addition, the company provided financial guidance for 2014.

FDA gives final approval to Perrigo's ANDA for repaglinide tablets 1 mg and 2 mg

Perrigo Company plc today announced that it has received final approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for its abbreviated new drug application for repaglinide tablets 1 mg and 2 mg, the generic equivalent to Prandin Tablets (repaglinide tablets) and has commenced shipment of product. Perrigo previously launched the 0.5 mg strength in 2013.

Research finds spousal diabetes is a diabetes risk factor

Living in a household implies sharing duties and responsibilities but it could also imply sharing your diabetes. A research team from the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) has shown, through combined analyses of several studies, evidence that spousal diabetes is a diabetes risk factor. These findings, published today in the open access journal BMC Medicine, have important clinical implications since they can help improve diabetes detection and motivate couples to work together to reduce the risk of developing the condition.

Lingonberries almost completely prevented weight gain in mice fed a high-fat diet, a study at Lund University in Sweden has found - whereas the 'super berry' açai led to increased weight gain. The Scandinavian berries also produced lower blood sugar levels and cholesterol.

Mylan Inc. today announced that its U.S.-based subsidiary Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. has launched Repaglinide Tablets, 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2 mg. This product is the generic version of Novo Nordisk's Prandin, which is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Study examines direct and indirect costs associated with health inequalities for minority men in the U.S.

African-American men incurred $341.8 billion in excess medical costs due to health inequalities between 2006 and 2009, and Hispanic men incurred an additional $115 billion over the four-year period, according to a new study by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The study, published this week in the International Journal of Men's Health, looks at the direct and indirect costs associated with health inequalities and projects the potential cost savings of eliminating these disparities for minority men in the U.S.
