Majority of high-risk heart disease patients have poor adherence to statin treatment

A new study from North Carolina State University shows that the vast majority of patients at high risk for heart disease or stroke do a poor job of taking statins as prescribed. That's especially unfortunate, because the same study shows that taking statins can significantly increase the quality and length of those patients' lives.

Medtronic to present new clinical results on innovative medical devices at EuroPCR

New clinical data on a range of innovative medical devices from Medtronic, Inc., to treat cardiac and vascular diseases - from severe aortic stenosis and uncontrolled hypertension, to coronary and peripheral artery disease - will be presented next week at EuroPCR. Many of the presentations will be featured during late-breaking sessions at this large international interventional cardiology meeting, which takes place in Paris from May 17-20.

Painkiller warning for heart patients: Study

According to the latest study, taking some commonly prescribed painkillers for even a short while might increase the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke. The study also reports that when heart attack survivors took the drugs for as little as a week, it appeared to boost their risk of another heart attack, stroke or sudden death. The results, published in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association, surprised even the researchers.
