AstraZeneca, AmeriCares partner to deliver medicines for people with chronic conditions

AmeriCares and AstraZeneca have teamed to deliver critical medicines to help people living with chronic diseases throughout the United States. AstraZeneca has donated $5 million in cardiovascular and gastrointestinal medications to AmeriCares in support of its Domestic Medical Assistance Program.

From fatigued to fantastic! You CAN effectively treat CFS, fatigue, fibromyalgia and muscle pain

The “perfect storm” for Fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, and fatigue in general is preparing to hit. A combination of poor nutrition, decreasing sleep, increasing stress and environmental toxins has created a human energy crisis of unprecedented proportions. Over the past 10 years, the incidence of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FMS) has exploded by 400 to 1000 percent, as documented in five separate studies. The numbers for those with CFS in the U.S., previously estimated at 500,000, are now being re-tallied at closer to 1- 2.5 million. Previous estimates placed the number of Americans with FMS at 6 million. Studies worldwide suggest this has likely gone up in the last decade to ~ 12-24 million Americans! Meanwhile, ¼ of Americans suffer with chronic pain and most are fatigued.

Nurse staffing levels, safety net status both factors in patient outcomes

A new study finds that higher nurse staffing levels can lead to better patient outcomes. However, the study also found this to not always be the case at safety net hospitals. Meanwhile, the Connecticut Mirror reports on hospitals' efforts to reduce readmissions. And, in other news, new research has found that patients are less likely to fill prescriptions when doctors specify brand names instead of allowing generic substitutions.

They have shown that nicotine is strongly linked to persistently raised blood sugar levels among diabetics and scientists say they should make every effort to quit. There may also be implications for diabetics attempting to give up the habit who use nicotine-replacement therapy for extended periods.

The latest research has shown that walnuts are the best nuts to prevent heart disease. Eating seven of the protein-rich walnuts a day could also help cut the risk of some cancers and type-2 diabetes say researchers.
