Wistar researcher receives NIH Director's Award to study link between diet, alcohol use and cancer

The National Institutes of Health today announced that Zachary T. Schug, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Molecular & Cellular Oncogenesis Program at The Wistar Institute, was awarded the prestigious NIH Director's New Innovator Award in support of his research on the link between a high sugar/fat diet, alcohol use and cancer.

Horizon Discovery Group plc, a global leader in the application of gene editing and gene modulation for cell line engineering, today announced the full commercial licensing to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, a global innovative pharmaceutical company, of its gene-edited Glutamine Synthetase knockout Chinese Hamster Ovary K1 cell line. Terms of the agreement were based on stringent evaluation of the cell line by Glenmark to assess its suitability for adoption into the Company’s biomanufacturing processes.

Triplet therapy could benefit patients with BRAF-mutant metastatic colorectal cancer

Results presented today at the ESMO Congress 2019, Barcelona 27 September - 01 October, during the second Proffered Paper Session on Gastrointestinal tumors (colorectal) by VHIO's Director, Josep Tabernero, show that the triplet combination of the BRAF inhibitor, encorafenib, MEK inhibitor, binimetinib, and EGFR inhibitor, cetuximab, not only significantly improves overall survival but also increases objective response rates compared with standard of care in patients with BRAF V600E-mutant metastatic colorectal cancer.
