Cell Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that it has deposited $10.6 million in cash as trust funds with U.S. Bank National Association, as the trustee of the outstanding 7.5% convertible senior notes, which is an amount sufficient to pay and discharge the entire amount due on the Notes, including accrued and unpaid interest.

Stanford University creates first stem cell science PhD program in U.S.

Stanford University’s Faculty Senate has approved the creation of what officials believe is the first stem cell science PhD program in the nation and, perhaps, the world. The new doctoral program in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine is also the first interdisciplinary doctoral program created by the School of Medicine in recent years.

Most nurses are chronically sleep deprived

Sleep has become a hot button topic in health care, at least when it comes to physicians. The fact that doctors-in-training don't get enough of it has resulted in regulations governing duty hours in resident training programs across the nation. In 2002, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) reduced the number of hours that resident physicians can work to 80 hours per week.

The U.S. Federal Court of Appeals has overturned an August 2010 ban on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, paving the way for broader exploration of how stem cells function and how they can be harnessed to treat a wide range of currently incurable diseases.
