Three senior analysts appointed by Jefferies for healthcare equity research

Jefferies today announced the expansion of its Healthcare Equity Research effort with the hiring of three senior analysts. Corey Davis, PhD has joined as a Managing Director covering Specialty Pharmaceuticals, Thomas Wei will join next month as a Managing Director covering Biotechnology, and Jon Davis Wood will join later this month as a Senior Vice President covering Life Sciences Tools. Bayer HealthCare to present its clinical trial data at a joint Multidisciplinary Congress

Bayer HealthCare today announced that data from more than 30 clinical trials evaluating three products in the company's oncology portfolio - Nexavar(R) (sorafenib) tablets, regorafenib (BAY 73-4506) and Alpharadin(TM) - will be presented at the joint 15th European CanCer Organisation (ECCO) and 34th European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Multidisciplinary Congress, September 20-24, 2009 in Berlin, Germany.

Charley's Fund and the Nash Avery Foundation to support investigation of Galapagos' SARM candidate drug

Galapagos NV (Euronext: GLPG), Charley's Fund Inc. and the Nash Avery Foundation announced today that they will collaborate to investigate the potential effectiveness of Galapagos' SARM candidate drug, G100192, in treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy. G100192 is an orally-available small molecule therapeutic, which has demonstrated successful Proof of Concept in pre-clinical studies for cachexia (the loss of weight and muscle mass).

UTMB scientists receive access to research materials with efforts from TIGM

Underlying malignancies can cause rebleeding after negative angiography

Acute non-variceal gastrointestinal bleeding accounts for approximately 20% of emergency room visits and 5% of admissions. Although endoscopy has been used as a first-line treatment option in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, angiographic intervention can be used as a safe diagnostic and treatment method in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding that is refractory to endoscopic treatment.

Liver transplantation performed in a six-month old infant

Ila and her worried parents were referred to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, home of the busiest pediatric liver transplant team in the nation. The hospital's team performed more liver transplants in 2008 – the most recent reporting period – than any other U.S. children's hospital, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing. They also did the largest number of surgeries in infants like Ila, who were younger than one year when they received a transplant.
