Positive results from Aerie Pharmaceuticals’ Phase 2a study of its Rho-kinase inhibitor

Aerie Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel treatments for glaucoma, today announced positive results from a Phase 2a study of its Rho-kinase (ROCK) inhibitor, AR-12286. The study evaluated the safety, tolerability and efficacy of three different doses of AR-12286 in 88 patients with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Celgene announces fiscal 2009 third-quarter results

Celgene Corporation announced non-GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) net income of $259.8 million, or non-GAAP earnings per diluted share of $0.56 for the quarter ended September 30, 2009. Non-GAAP net income for the third quarter of 2008 was $185.9 million, or non-GAAP earnings per diluted share of $0.40.

Merck's sales increases by 2% in third quarter 2009

Merck & Co., Inc. today announced financial results for the third quarter of 2009. The company reported non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter of $0.90, which excludes a $1.7 billion after-tax gain from the sale of the company's interest in Merial Limited as well as restructuring charges and pre-closing merger-related expenses. Third-quarter GAAP EPS was $1.61.
