Ascom introduces new VoIP solution for healthcare sector

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

Ascom Wireless Solutions, the leading supplier of on-site communications, introduces VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to their teleCARE IP solution, a system already established at hospitals and care homes across the world.

“Creating a truly future proof environment with solid communication solutions for our customers is one of the most important tasks we face”

Originally, Ascom teleCARE IP was created as a communication platform upon which new innovations could be built combining the full suite of traditional nurse call functionality and the power of IP technology. With the addition of VoIP, it is anticipated that the new voice communication features will have a positive impact on the everyday tasks staff in the healthcare sector face.

Jan Ringenier, Product Manager at Ascom explains; "The new VoIP solution delivers practical functions direct to those who need them most. For example, nurses can use Direct Call In, noise-triggered Acoustic Monitoring and a Listen-In function to discreetly monitor and talk to their patients. With the new voice functionality, communication can be maintained without the nurse having to physically visit a room or the patient to leave his or her bed. We are sure these new features will make a significant contribution to staff efficiency and standards of patient and resident care wherever they are applied."

The hospital or care home environment demands that communication between staff and from staff to patients or residents is carried out on the move. In this case, by means of Ascom DECT or VoWiFi handsets. All communication is done over the LAN using VoIP and SIP clients. Using the LAN makes it possible to connect multiple sites to one large united site.

"Creating a truly future proof environment with solid communication solutions for our customers is one of the most important tasks we face", continues Mr Ringenier. "With VoIP, the healthcare sector can benefit from reducing communication and infrastructure expenses by routing phone calls over existing data networks, thus avoiding duplicate network systems. And last but not least, the Ascom teleCARE IP system allows for the reuse of existing infrastructure, reducing the client's investment burden as well as contributing to the creation of a leaner, more cost effective working environment at their hospital, elderly care home or nursing home".
