New American Lung Association Program Accepting Applications

On Friday, August 13th, children between the ages of 6 and 14 will participate in the American Lung Association in Iowa's asthma education event at Principal Park.  This program provides children the chance to experience outdoor fun in a medically-supervised environment while learning to understand and manage their asthma.

"Asthma is the leading cause of school absenteeism in Iowa," says Micki Sandquist, Executive Director for the American Lung Association in Iowa.  "Active with Asthma will allow us to teach children and their families how to better manage their disease, which will hopefully lead to fewer episodes, and fewer missed school days."

Asthma is the # 1 chronic disease of children.  There are more than 65,000 Iowa children who have been diagnosed with asthma.  This FREE event is a way to help more than 100 children better understand and manage this life changing health condition.

Parents and caregivers have the opportunity to participate in an afternoon educational event before joining their children in a special closing ceremony.
