The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has received the Women's Choice Award® as one of America's Best Hospitals for Cancer Care for 2015. This award signifies Karmanos' commitment and passion towards providing an extraordinary healthcare experience for women and all patients.

By carrying the Women's Choice Award seal, Karmanos has joined an elite network of hospitals committed to a global mission to empower women to make smart healthcare choices.

"We are extremely pleased to receive this award again this year and recognition as one of the nation's best cancer care hospitals," said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of Karmanos Cancer Institute. "It has always been our mission to provide better care for all our patients, by virtue of our specialty in treating the approximately 200 types of cancer.

"We realize that women make up the majority of decision makers when it comes to health care. It is gratifying that women endorse our dedication to providing unmatched cancer care throughout Michigan."

Karmanos joins an exclusive group of 331 hospitals who have earned the 2015 Women's Choice Award by meeting the highest cancer care accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, which includes excellence in clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures. Additional criteria includes Karmanos' high recommendation rate as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, a measure that is important to women in choosing a hospital.

"Women have many choices when it comes to cancer care, but now they can make informed choices based on rigorous, evidence-based criteria," said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women's Choice Award. "As a cancer survivor who faced a challenging journey to recovery, I wish I had the Women's Choice Award as a resource to spare me unnecessary fret and error. When faced with cancer a woman owes it to herself and her family to get the best treatment."
