IntraMed recognized with Digital Pioneer Award for The Physician's Internet Tutorial

IntraMed Educational Group, Sudler & Hennessey's flagship medical education division, was honored with the Digital Pioneer Award for their 1996 project The Physician's Internet Tutorial. The award was presented at the recent 2016 Medical Advertising Hall of Fame Awards ceremony held in NYC.

"It's hard to remember a time when we didn't understand the Internet; but if you reset your brain to that time, you'll recall the early 1990s when we talked about the ʼinformation superhighway,ʼ and you may get a shiver of uncomfortable nostalgia," said Louisa Holland, Co-CEO for the Americas at Sudler.

Manufacturers were uneasy with the Internet and had strict policies that made it virtually impossible to create a site that would actually engage physicians. They were also uneasy spending money for Web-based initiatives that had no demonstrable ROI. And nobody knew exactly what physicians knew about the Internet—or what they did there. It was in this environment that IntraMed proved that creativity and technologic know-how could still win the day, influencing how physicians used the Internet, without ever creating a website.

For over a decade, IntraMed had managed "Research Rounds," an annual educational conference, for Roche Labs. Then, in the mid-90', IntraMed added a new element to the conference: an Internet learning, where physicians could have a guided, hands-on experience exploring the Web. An Internet primer, which became an instant hit, was added when it became apparent that physicians were starving for this type of clinically oriented technological help. "By directing physicians to meaningful and clinically relevant Internet experiences, we helped define the ʼgatewayʼ by which these specialists entered the Internet," stated Holland. "In essence, we created a new channel at a time when nobody was even using the word."

IntraMed and Sudler continue guiding and leading the vision for technology in healthcare in all their work today.
