Research led by s. Hell in far field optical nanoscopy (known also as super resolution imaging) revolutionized the entire field of optical microscopy. By exceeding Abbey's refraction barrier, the new technology developed by S.Hell sheds light on fundamental processes and functions, which could not be observed by conventional imaging methods.
