    If his tonsils are enlarged, having them removed will help him be more comfortable if/when he gets sick in the future.  My 5-year-old's are almost completely blocking his airway as he fights some sort of infection.  F. Nechrophorum won't show up on a strep test; a blood culture is probably required to identify it.  If the test is positive, it requires IV antibiotics, so probably a week or so in the hospital.
