    I have sickle cell and I would love to know how people dealt with pain crisis before the condition was given a name. I'm sure they didn't have access to pain medicine or any effective treatments.  I've had horrible pain that was so bad morphine didn't have much of an effect.  How did children make it into adulthood?  How did slaves deal with it?  I'd love to find answers to these questions.
