Fluorescence Anywhere - Fluorescence Stereo Microscopy on a Rocky Shore

The NIGHTSEA Model SFA uses high intensity LEDs for excitation. The power requirement for these is fairly low, and we offer a battery pack that will run the system for upwards of 8 hours on a single charge. This gives you the capability to do ‘Fluorescence Anywhere’™. If you couple this with the NIGHTSEA Eclipse MicroTent™ (affectionately called the ‘dark tent’ or ‘tent of darkness’) you can also do fluorescence at any time of day – the tent blocks out all ambient light.

The video shows how you can set up to do fluorescence microscopy on a rocky beach on the coast of Maine. At the time that video was made the tent of darkness had not yet been perfected. The images below the video show the fully portable system, including the tent, being used on a sandy beach in Massachusetts and in the desert east of San Diego – at high noon.
