A 10 minute brisk walk each day is all is needed to reduce risk of early death by 15%

A new study has found that adults aged 40 to 60 in England are not getting any notable physical activity. Only 4 in 10 individuals are walking less than 10 minutes continuously each month at a brisk pace. This means that they are missing the health benefits offered by routine physical exercise say the Public Health England in their evidence review.

UA Valley Fever Center For Excellence awarded NIH grant to accelerate vaccine development

The Valley Fever Center for Excellence at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson has been awarded a four-year, $4.8 million grant for research to speed development of a vaccine to combat Valley fever, the sometimes deadly respiratory illness caused by Coccidioides spores found in soils of the U.S. Southwest.

Indus Valley ground water in Pakistan shows alarmingly high levels of arsenic

Analysis of water supplies in Pakistan has shown abnormally high levels of Arsenic putting 60 million residents at risk of Arsenic poisoning. The study evaluated and analyzed around 1,200 groundwater quality samples from various parts of the country. Over the Indus plain the results show levels of Arsenic that are way above the World Health Organization (WHO) safety guidelines’ recommendations. The study was published in the journal, Science Advances.

Two research papers have been released that show that the abstinence-only-until-marriage (AOUM) programs and policies in the United States are ineffective by and large and have not been successful in reducing risky sexual behaviors or early initiation of sex. Studies have reported that these are programs that successfully withhold medically accurate information not to mention infringe on adolescent human rights and reinforce gender stereotypes. The findings are published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.
