Pharmacoeconomic methods influence only 13% of hospital formulary system decisions: Survey

Pharmacoeconomic methods rank low as a decision influencer on formulary changes, according to a new survey released today by the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Respondents reported that only 13 percent of formulary system decisions made by Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees in hospitals is influenced by pharmacoeconomic methods.

ASHP honors First DataBank pharmacist with the title of Fellow for excellence in pharmacy practice

VA now requires PTCB certification for pharmacy technicians employed at grade GS-6

The Department of Veterans Affairs now requires Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification for VA pharmacy technicians employed at grade GS-6 and above. VA's decision came after formal recommendations from the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and is reflected in the VA Handbook 5005/15.

Tamro Group's first-quarter 2010 net sales increase 7.4% to EUR 1,424 million

Tamro Group's net sales in February-April 2010 amounted to EUR 1,424 million, an increase of 7.4%. A significant part of the sales increase is due to strengthened exchange rates of the Swedish, Norwegian and Polish currencies. At constant exchange rates, Tamro's net sales increased by 1.8%.

Aspirin may not be beneficial for young adults with diabetes

Experts are now recommending that low-dose aspirin therapy to prevent heart attacks be used somewhat more conservatively - that men younger than 50 and women younger than 60, who have diabetes but no other major risk factors, probably not use aspirin.
