CSI announces completion of enrollment in CALCIUM 360° clinical trial for PAD

Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (CSI), has completed patient enrollment in its prospective, randomized CALCIUM 360° clinical trial, part of the company's 360° Clinical Series. The CALCIUM 360° feasibility study is evaluating the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) behind and below the knee using CSI's Diamondback 360® System, a minimally invasive catheter for treating PAD anywhere in the leg. Dr. Nicolas Shammas, an interventional cardiologist at Trinity Medical Center, Bettendorf, Iowa, is the study's principal investigator.

Cerus reports strong revenue growth in first quarter 2010

Total revenue was $5.7 million during the first quarter of 2010, up 64% from the $3.5 million recognized during same period in 2009. Product revenue for the INTERCEPT Blood System was $5.5 million during the first quarter of 2010, up more than 75% from the $3.1 million recognized during the same period in 2009.

FDA approves Provenge prostate cancer vaccine

Cancer may now be fought with a vaccine. The FDA has finally approved an immune boosting vaccine which is said to extend survival of patients at an advanced stage of prostate cancer by four months. This is twice as long as what could be expected with regular chemotherapy. There is also an increase of three years survival after detection in initial stage by 38% thanks to the vaccine.

The biologic properties of ADM, including its ability to support tissue regeneration repopulation with fibroblasts, revascularization, new collagen deposition and eventual absorption and replacement with native tissue permit its use in tissue reconstruction.
