Advanced regeneration system for cleaning water wells

Wells are used to extract water from aquifers, natural underground stores of water found on layers of permeable rock, gravel or clay. The water is pumped up and transported via pipes to treatment works, where it is cleaned and filtered through gravel beds before being conveyed to domestic and business consumers via a network of smaller pipes or mains.

Palomar Medical Technologies to continue commercialization of its wrinkle treatment laser device

Palomar Medical Technologies Inc., a leading researcher and developer of light-based systems for cosmetic treatments, today announced the termination of its agreement with Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc ("JJCC"), a Johnson & Johnson company, to develop, clinically test and commercialize home-use, light-based devices for (i) reducing or reshaping body fat including cellulite; (ii) reducing appearance of skin aging; and (iii) reducing or preventing acne.

Clemson University receives a $9.3M NIH grant to establish a tissue regeneration center

Clemson University has received a $9.3 million, five-year National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to establish a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) for Tissue Regeneration. Faculty from the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina also will collaborate, providing expertise in medicine and developmental biology.

Institute Curie Hospital in France adds another TomoTherapy radiation therapy system

TomoTherapy Incorporated announced today that the Institute Curie Hospital in France has purchased a second TomoTherapy® radiation therapy system, to support the increasing demand for intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The Institute Curie Hospital has been treating cancer patients with TomoTherapy technology since March 2007, when it became the first hospital in France to adopt the technology.

Depression becomes more difficult to treat the longer it goes undiagnosed or undertreated

A new survey of 2,001 adults living with depression revealed that despite being diagnosed for an average of 12 years, many unknowingly took actions that could have sabotaged their chances of getting well. Furthermore, on average, it took about six years for respondents to seek diagnosis from a health care professional, suggesting these adults may have been coping with depression for as long as 18 years.
