Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) are produced from a single B cell clone and can bind to a single type of antigen binding site. MAbs are homogenous antibodies that cannot form lattices with monomeric proteins as they can bind to only a single epitope on the antigen. Developed in the 1970s, MAbs can be produced against any given substance. Thus they can be used to detect and purify any substance of interest. This has made MAbs a powerful tool of molecular biology, biochemistry, and medicine.

Hospira receives positive opinion from EMA's CHMP for EC approval of Inflectra

Hospira, the world's leading provider of injectable drugs and infusion technologies, today received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, recommending the European Commission approval of Inflectra (infliximab) for rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and plaque psoriasis.

Seattle Genetics collaborates with Bayer HealthCare for new antibody-drug conjugate

Seattle Genetics, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a new antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) collaboration with Bayer HealthCare (Bayer). Under the latest relationship, Bayer will pay upfront and option exercise fees of up to $20 million for worldwide rights to utilize Seattle Genetics' auristatin-based ADC technology with antibodies to several oncology targets.
