MD Anderson Cancer Center continues to rank first in cancer care

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center remains the leading hospital in the nation for cancer care for the fourth year straight, according to the annual "Best Hospitals" survey published by U.S. News & World Report.This is the seventh time in the last nine years that MD Anderson has ranked number one in the annual listing. Since the survey began in 1990, the institution has been ranked one of the top two cancer hospitals in the United States.

MEDTOX Scientific second-quarter total revenues increase 18.1% to $25.2 million

MEDTOX Scientific, Inc. today announced results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010. MEDTOX achieved a significant increase in new clinical laboratory business for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, and laboratory drugs-of-abuse testing showed a net positive increase in revenues of 5.6% for the second quarter of 2010, compared to a decrease of 10.6% in the prior year quarter.

Plexxikon announces promising preclinical data of PLX3397

Plexxikon Inc. today announced promising preclinical data from in vivo Alzheimer's Disease studies demonstrating a dramatic reduction in activated microglia in the brains of very old (22 months) 3xTG-AD mice, a triple transgenic model for Alzheimer's Disease. This reduction of activated microglia led to significantly improved learning in the treated group.

NIH announces 5 more years of funding for Consortium of Food Allergy Research

Today, the National Institutes of Health announce that the Consortium of Food Allergy Research (CoFAR), established in 2005, will be funded for five more years. PPMD to provide grant to clinical sites participating in Phase 2 study of ACE-031

Patricia A. Furlong, Founding President and CEO of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest non-profit organization in the United States focused on finding a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, announced that PPMD will provide a grant to clinical sites participating in Acceleron Pharma's Phase 2 clinical study of ACE-031. These grants will help patients' families cover travel costs to and from the study site, and hotel rooms and meals during study visits.

AMS reports positive results from clinical trial of MiniArc Single-Incision Sling System for SUI

American Medical Systems® (AMS), a leading provider of world-class devices and therapies for both male and female pelvic health, today announced results of a prospective, multi-center study on their market leading MiniArc Single-Incision Sling System for female stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
