Novartis announced today that new six-year data reinforce the long-term efficacy and safety profile of once-yearly Reclast (zoledronic acid) injection in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Delcath executes melphalan supply agreement with Synerx and Bioniche Teoranta

Genzyme reports five-year patient data from Phase 2 multiple sclerosis trial

Genzyme Corporation today reported five-year patient data from its completed Phase 2 multiple sclerosis (MS) trial. This sub-group analysis found that nearly 90 percent of alemtuzumab-treated patients were free of sustained accumulation of disability, and that patients receiving alemtuzumab also maintained improved mean disability scores and a low risk of relapse over the 60-month follow-up period.

FDG positron emission tomography allows early diagnosis of gall bladder cancer

Researchers at the University of Granada and the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Hospital Virgen de las Nieves at Granada found that the metabolic imaging diagnosis technique based on the analysis of a structural analog of glucose labeled with a positron-emitting compound (18F) allows early diagnosis of gall bladder cancer, a relatively rare disease with high mortality rates among most patients suffering from it.

Robot-assisted brachytherapy for treating prostate cancer

Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Phebra Pty Ltd. today announced that Acetadote (acetylcysteine) Injection, an injectable product used to treat acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose, is now commercially available in the Australian market. Phebra Pty Ltd., an Australian-based specialty pharmaceutical company, has an exclusive license from U.S.-based Cumberland Pharmaceuticals to market and distribute the product in Australia.

Cowden Foundation, will bring the first national educational conference on Graft vs. Host Disease (GvHD) to Cleveland on Thursday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Corporate College East, 4400 Richmond Road, Warrenville Hts. GvHD is a life-threatening complication experienced by an estimated 60 percent of all leukemia and other blood cancer patients following bone marrow transplantation. There is currently no cure.
