UBM Medica today announces that it has acquired the website OBGYN.net (www.obgyn.net) from MediSpecialty.com, Inc.

OBGYN.net is a women's health website for obstetrics and gynecology professionals and patients.  The site provides article-based and multimedia content generated by both contributors and users. OBGYN's archived, searchable online forums – some of which have been running for over 10 years – comprise approximately one million posts and include professional peer-to-peer discussions and consumer-to-physician/expert forums, as well as patient-to-patient support forums.  OBGYN.net has a registered population of approximately 140,000 and attracts more than 500,000 unique visitors a month.

Sally Shankland, CEO UBM Medica US said:

"We're very pleased to bring OBGYN.net into UBM Medica's network of resources for healthcare professionals and consumers, which are dedicated to improving quality of care.  OBGYN.net is an integrated online community of healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and the women they serve.  The mission is to share knowledge in order to advance women's healthcare globally.  UBM Medica is committed to both fostering and further developing OBGYN.net's ability to improve women's lives every day."

Roberta Speyer, co-founder of OBGYN.net with husband and business partner Bruce Speyer, made the following comment:

"We started OBGYN.net in 1996 with the support of doctors participating in an email only listserve, OBGYN-L, founded by then Baylor third year Chief Resident Geffrey Klein, M.D.  Over the years, with the help of the top medical professionals in the obstetrics and gynecology field, it has grown to become the premiere global resource for Ob/Gyn and women's healthcare.  Our role has been as stewards of this vibrant community, and our goal has long been to find the best safe haven to pass the baton of stewardship to.  We looked for a solid healthcare focused company with roots in medical publishing.  UBM Medica was the unequivocal best choice.  UBM Medica is in the position to bring OBGYN.net into the future and help her continue to grow and blossom through all the best content and technology applications available, including in new areas such as virtual events and mobile.  Bruce and I, and everyone at OBGYN.net, are delighted to be working with Sally and her team to continue the OBGYN.net tradition of community, content and caring."

The acquisition of OBGYN.net expands UBM Medica's network of health care communities dedicated to improving quality of care.  UBM Medica's communities include Primary Care, Oncology, Psychiatry, Radiology, and Pediatrics.
