Toshiba offers new classes to educate technologists

As advanced applications for imaging technology continue to develop at a fast pace, it is critical that the medical community have access to education opportunities to enhance the use of these new tools. Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.'s Education Center in Irvine, Calif., is now offering two new classes: "Advanced CT Imaging for Technologists" and "Advanced Non-Contrast MRA" to educate technologists on the latest applications available with their state-of-the-art Toshiba technology.

RadNet acquires five imaging centers of Progressive Health in Northern New Jersey

RadNet, Inc., a national leader in providing high-quality, cost-effective, fixed-site outpatient diagnostic imaging services through a network of 198 fully-owned and operated outpatient imaging centers, today reported it has completed the previously announced acquisition of five imaging centers in Northern New Jersey and a 50% equity interest in a sixth center from Progressive Health, LLC and certain affiliates and related entities.

TUM physicist's new approach expected to improve image contrast with low radiation

The DFG cited Pfeiffer's research in biomedical imaging, and in particular his pioneering work in X-ray phase-contrast imaging. His systematic approach has laid the foundation for applications of this technique in medicine and industry, where it is expected to deliver improved image contrast with lower doses of radiation.

Radiation hazard from diagnostic tests

In a nationwide safety effort launched this week in Chicago health care providers are pledging to stop the overuse of radiation on patients during medical examinations. The pledge at the Image Wisely campaign is signed so far by nearly 700 health care providers. It pledges to use the least radiation necessary on patients for a procedure. An expert panel at a radiology meeting Thursday said the campaign may lead to more review of protocols, more accreditation of imaging facilities and more widely shared standards on proper radiation doses.

Researchers develop best biologically based test for autism to date

Researchers at Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital and the University of Utah have developed the best biologically based test for autism to date. The test was able to detect the disorder in individuals with high-functioning autism with 94 percent accuracy. The study will be published online the week of November 29th in Autism Research.
