CHLA opens doors of new Encino outpatient care center

Children's Hospital Los Angeles opened the doors of its new outpatient care center in Encino today. The pediatric medical facility, Children's Hospital Los Angeles - Encino, will be staffed by physicians who are Board-certified in pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including hematology-oncology, nephrology, neurology, orthopaedics, pediatric surgery and urology.

New recommendations offer insights on strategies for treating infants with seizures. In an Epilepsia report, child neurologists who are members of the International League Against Epilepsy note that intervening at the time of a febrile seizure does not alter the risk for subsequent epilepsy, and there is no evidence to support the use of antiepileptic drugs for simple febrile seizures.

Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment can cause late sequelae

Hodgkin's lymphoma--cancer of the lymph nodes--arises in more than 150 children and adolescents in Germany each year. Nine out of ten patients survive the disease, thanks to the highly effective treatments that are now available. Depending on the type of treatment given, however, there may be late sequelae, as discussed by Wolfgang Dörffel and colleagues in an original article in the current issue of Deutsches Ärzteblatt International (Dtsch Arztebl Int 2015; 112: 320-7).
