Denmark grants marketing authorization for SUMAVEL DosePro Needle-Free Delivery System

Zogenix, Inc. and Desitin Pharmaceuticals GmbH today announced that the Danish Medicines Agency of Denmark has approved the Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) for SUMAVEL® DosePro™ (sumatriptan injection) Needle-Free Delivery System. Denmark is the first country in Europe to grant marketing authorization for SUMAVEL DosePro for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, and the acute treatment of cluster headache.

AVEO to present data on tivozanib Phase 1b trial for breast cancer at SABCS Symposium

AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, today announced that new clinical data from a Phase 1b trial evaluating the company's lead product candidate, tivozanib, a highly potent and selective inhibitor of VEGF receptors 1, 2, and 3, in combination with paclitaxel (Taxol), a standard chemotherapy regimen, will be presented during the 33rd Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) being held December 8-12, 2010 at the Henry B. IOF commends IOM's new vitamin D and calcium intake recommendations

On November 30, 2010, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences (IOM) in the US released new recommendations on daily reference intakes for vitamin D and calcium across all ages. The report is based on available evidence in the literature, with higher quality studies, supporting the role of these nutrients on bone health. Vitamin D deficiency is an important health issue to address as it has been linked to the pathogenesis of osteoporosis and hip fractures as well as other skeletal and non-skeletal disorders.

People with mental health diagnoses receives poor quality of preventive mass screening

Dr Alex Mitchell, of the Department of Cancer Studies and Molecular Medicine at the University of Leicester, led the study which has been published in the journal General Hospital Psychiatry. Dr Mitchell said preventive screening refers to population based medical tests such as mammography, colonoscopy, blood pressure testing or cholesterol levels to detect conditions such as cancer, diabetes or heart conditions. These screening programmes are typically administered widely in order to help with early detection or prevention and have been credited with improving outcomes of several key medical conditions.
